Middle-class families to lose $88 a week from daycare subsidies

Middle-class families will lose up to $88 a week in daycare subsidies unless both parents work or study, an analysis of the Abbott government’s childcare reforms shows.

A single-income family earning $65,000 a year, with one child in care for two days a week, stands to lose $4603 a year in taxpayer subsidies when the system changes in July 2017.

Families earning $80,000 a year — just above the average wage — would lose $69 a week, or $3576 a year.

A family with one breadwinner earning $100,000, and one parent at home, would lose $49 a week, or $2548 a year.
