Childcare is a huge expense for more than a million Australian families and the Senate will soon be voting on a bill to help make early learning and care more affordable.

Some parents simply can’t afford to return to work due to their childcare costs and that’s bad news for the nation’s economy. Importantly the evidence shows that many children benefit from quality early learning – it sets them up for school and life.

The Government’s Jobs for Families proposal is expected to reduce the cost of childcare by as much as $30 per week for many families. But, it also proposes to reduce access to early learning for many children from low income families who stand to benefit the most.

Please help make sure our Senators know that Australian families need the bill improved and passed by signing the petition asking them to play nicely and make the proposal a reality.

Early learning and childcare petition:

To the Honourable President and members of the Senate in Parliament assembled:

The petition of the undersigned shows:

There would be significant economic and social benefits to Australia if more families were able to afford quality early learning and childcare.

Your petitioners ask that the Senate:

  1. Ensures the Jobs for Families Childcare reform package delivers more affordable childcare for working families and improved access to early learning opportunities for all children, especially disadvantaged children; and;
  2. Ensures no low income families are worse off – as a result of the childcare reform package – in accessing early learning opportunities for their children.
