I’m an early learning educator in NSW.
I come from a long career in early learning in New Zealand but I was originally training as an engineer, before interrupting my study to have a family of my own. I see connections between engineering and learning – both are about thinking through processes and patterns, making adjustments as you go.
I like the way the curriculum provides a more broad way for teachers to move in any direction of the children’s interest, the skill is to go with the child, while channelling their interests into learning opportunities wherever they arise.
The entire sector needs more funding. We’re all so passionate and so committed but our families really do wear the costs. Myself and my colleagues need more recognition as educators who are helping shape the future of Australia by delivering education to children.
